Most UK manufacturers recommend a service every 12 months or 10,000–12,000 miles — whichever comes first. Check your handbook: some newer cars stretch intervals, but skipping services can void warranties and hide faults.
Basic service usually covers oil, filter, fluids and a safety look-over. Full / major adds filters, plugs (when due), deeper checks and sometimes gearbox or coolant work.
